• 論文抄録 / 内容記述: 図書館における配架用十進分類法開発の要因を，19世紀の出版量急増と指摘し，これに対応するための，相対番地分類法として、DDC，LCC，NDC等の列挙型分類法が用いられたことを説明。複合主題の文献発生に対応するためにUDCを肇とした、分析合成型分類法が開発され，使用されることを紹介し，主題の進化する環境に対応するための，分類システムの維持管理体制にふれ，図書館の規模との相関関係を提示する。既存の一般分類の問題点を示し，オンライン・ネットワーク状況下における機能変化の必然性を結論する。

• 論文抄録(英) / 内容記述: The paper describes widels adoption of decimal Classifications in library world. The first part reviews enumerative classification systems, such as DDC, EC, LCC, NDC, etc., oied in livraaries as ameans to give relative location in shelf order. The next part explains development of analytico-synthetic classification systems, such as UDC, BC, CC, etc., worked out to cope with compound subjects of documents. The last part presents some probemls of existing livrary classification systems and points out the needs of reconstruction, to meet the online environment.
