During the load-response phase of gait, the impact of ground contact passes through the heel and is absorbed by the centrifugal contraction of the dorsiflexor muscles. Real-time estimation of the dorsiflexor contraction at this time is highly useful not only in gait analysis but also in sports. In this study, we used a high-speed camera to measure the gastrocnemius oscillation after ground contact based on the distance between the marker on the medial head of the gastrocnemius and the marker on the femur. The results showed that the vibration of the gastrocnemius muscle was more pronounced in the former case than in the latter. Our results suggest that this method can be used to estimate the dorsiflexor contraction immediately after ground contact. |
