• 論文抄録 / 内容記述: ワードプロセッサのマニュアルを例にその構成を調査した．マニュアルは目的別に複数用意されるが，情報の提示法には階層化と分離が様々な度合いで採用されていることがわかった．次に，マニュアル構成の評価を，その利用状況のビデオ収録と思考口述法により試みた．その結果，（） ユーザはマニュアルを替えたがらないため，情報の分離を行う場合は各マニュアルの掲載内容を理解させることが重要である，（） 熟練ユーザは入門書を見ようとしないため，情報を階層化する場合は取扱説明書に入門書の情報をすべて含む必要がある，ことがわかった．また，ユーザがページをめくる回数と見ている時間の関係から，構成を評価できる可能性を示した．

• 論文抄録(英) / 内容記述: Often, a system is provided with a set of manuals for different targets and objectives, where information is either split or overlapped in various levels of detail. Four word-processors and their manuals have been employed for a case study on manual composition. They have exhibited different ways and proportions in information separation and overlapping. An attempt was made to evaluate the composition of and among manuals by means of video recording of user's behavior and the thinking-aloud method. The results are: Users tend to adhere to a manual rather than switch among them, so that information separation should be transparent if it were made; Veterans likely skip introductory manuals so that reference manuals should include all the information of introductory manuals. Moreover, it is shown that manual composition could be evaluated by how many pages are turned before getting information and how long a page is read.
