Virtual reality (VR) has emerged as a promising tool for rehabilitation training and rapid skill acquisition due to its cost-effectiveness and practicality. Despite the ease of manipulating visual feedback in VR and its effectiveness in training non-dominant hand (NDH) skills in real-world settings, previous research typically involves prolonged training and fails to achieve short-term skill acquisition. In this study, we incorporated the design of inverted visual feedback to associate the view of the dominant hand (DH) with one's NDH to train the NDH using VR. We designed an experiment where participants performed a complex ball-rotation task with their NDH. We compared two groups: visual feedback via head-mounted display and via mirror. By evaluating the improvement in NDH performance and users' experience, we verified that VR-based visual feedback contributes to rapid skill acquisition of the untrained hand and that the observation angle offered by the VR system is advantageous. |
