• 論文抄録 / 内容記述: LinuxとWindowsを同時に利用できる教育用計算機システムの一実現法を，大阪市立大学での事例をもとに紹介する．このシステムでは，利用者端末のOSとしてLinuxを採用し，その上で仮想計算機（VMware）を使用してWindows2000を動作させる方式を採用した．本稿では，仮想計算機上のハードディスクやネットワーク構成，セキュリティ等，このようなシステムを実現するときの問題点と解決法を明らかにしている．仮想計算機の性能向上のためLinuxにはハードディスクを内蔵するが，ハードディスクの管理コストを削減するために，(1)ハードディスクが空でもブートできるようにLinuxはネットワークブートする，(2)利用者端末上のLinuxとWindowsのハードディスク内容は，ブート時にサーバ上の雛形を使用して自動的に更新する，等の工夫も行っている．この点についても詳述する．また，利用者端末の起動時間やハードディスク内容の更新時間等も実用的な範囲内であることを示す．

• 論文抄録(英) / 内容記述: The purpose of this paper is, on the basis of our experience at OsakaCity University, to introduce a method to implement an educationalcomputer system whose users can simultaneously use both Linux andWindows operating system.In our system, Linux is used as the operating system of a userterminal and Windows2000 runs on a virtual machine (VMware) which runson Linux.In this paper, we show the issues and solutions of implementing suchsystem, including virtual machine's hardware configuration andsecurity.In such system, as a hard disk is necessary for user terminals toenhance the performance of the virtual machine, we also demonstrateour method to reduce administration cost of the hard disk. Forexample, (1) Network boot procedure is used to boot Linux kernel sothat it can run even if the disk is left uninitialized or out oforder, (2) The filesystem for both Linux and Windows are automaticallyupdated using a template on a server.Also, we experimentally confirmed that both booting a user terminaland updating its filesystems can be done within practical time.
