• 論文抄録 / 内容記述: 近年のネットワークコミュニケーションでは，感情表現のためにアバタがよく利用されるが，これらのアバタの顔や表情の意味は，特に断らなくても任意の利用者間で普遍的に共有されるものという暗黙的な前提の下で使用されている．本研究では，1) アバタの表情解釈に文化差が存在することを検証する．また，アバタ表情解釈の文化差に，心理学における人間の表情解釈の文化差に関する知見が適用できること，特に同国内の表情認知度は，他国と比べて高いことがアバタ表情にも適用できることを検証する，2) 表情解釈の文化差が顕著な表情を検出する，ことを研究課題とした．公開Web 実験を行い，アジアと欧米8 カ国間におけるアバタ表情の解釈内容を比較分析した．その結果，1) アバタ表情の解釈には文化差が存在し，日本におけるアバタ表情解釈の一致率が高く心理学の知見が適用できること，2) 否定的な表情は文化を超えて正しく理解されるが，肯定的な表情は国によって解釈差の大きいこと，が示された．

• 論文抄録(英) / 内容記述: Avatars are increasingly used to express our emotions in our online communication. Such avatars are used based on the implicit assumption that avatar expressions are interpreted universally among any cultures. This study aims to show indications to the following two issues: 1) To verify cultural differences in interpreting avatars’ facial expression. To apply Psychological finding on cultural differences in human facial expression recognition to those of avatar expressions. 2) To identify avatar facial expressions that are recognized differently across cultures. We conducted an open web experiment to gather users’ interpretations of various avatar facial expressions from eight countries within Asia, North and South America, and Europe. The results showed 1) Cultural differences do exist in interpretation of avatar facial expressions, which confirms the psychological findings that physical proximity affects recognition accuracy. 2) There are wide differences among cultures in interpreting positive expressions, while negative expressions had higher recognition accuracy.
