paper proposes a new region-wide collaborative website for public research institutes (called kosetsushi in Japanese). The website uses an equipment database and features a new information notification service. The equipment database provides functionality to search for equipment owned by various institutes. Equipment information is automatically gathered from institute websites by a web crawler. Search results are unlikely to contain unnecessary information, as the crawler is limited to accessing only certain directories. The new information notification service parses RSS feeds from institute sites and displays the results in aggregate. Compared with existing search engines, the proposed site is superior in terms of maintenance costs and search accuracy. Consideration was given to applicable scope of the proposed site.
