The embedded control software development process consists of the control logic design phase and the software design phase. MATLAB/Simulink is widely used to build a controller model in the control logic design phase. On the other hand, UML is widely used in the software design phase. To shift from the control logic design phase to the software design phase smoothly, we have developed a model transformation tool to transform a Simulink model to a UML model. The UML model generated by the transformation tool consists of classes that encapsulate data and calculation methods of the data. To improve the reusability of the UML model, the Simulink model should be well-layered. We have also developed a layering support tool for efficient layering of the Simulink model.
