The improvement of image processing is important for high readability of the historical mokkans with stains/degradations and for high accuracy character pattern extraction. We performed analyses of color channels and frequencies of mokkan digital images, and implemented image processing methods to remove grains and corrosions on the images. Also, in the improvements of character retrieval, we incremented the templates and upgraded the shape feature extraction method.
