We have developed an IP mobility architecture MAT for IPv6 which enables the mobile node to communicate transparently even if it moves from one network to another. However, wireless LAN/WAN environments for portable devices are currently restricted. The purpose of our study is to apply the technology of MAT which has been cultivated in IPv6 to existing IPv4 networks. In this paper, we explain protocol extensions of MAT for IPv4, and how signaling messages are exchanged among nodes and servers.
