Here, majority of existing studies on conversation systems focused on utterance generation in response to user's utterance, and not many researches exist concerning utterance generation for initiating conversations. That is because, in the former case, the past utterances can be used as a major source of information, but in the latter case, finding a new topic independently of the past utterances becomes crucial. Based on the background, this study aims at developing a sentence selection system for initial utterance generation.
