Although LDPC codes starts coming into practical use, they should be improved in terms of code construction, because there are no established construction methods for codes of relatively short length. We proposed an LDPC code construction method employing genetic algorithms (GAs). The originality of the method is that using codes constructed with conventional methods as initial individuals GA finds codes of better performance compared to the initial ones.
