In spoken dialogue systems, vague queries and fragmental utterance are often input. As a result, so many items are usually obtained. Thus, we introduce an efficient dialogue strategies to narrow down the items based on bottom-up knowledge derived from dependency structure analysis together with the top-down knowledge acquired from a knowledge base. We also introduce information gain as a criterion of efficiency of the possible questions. As a result of the experimental evaluation, correct retrieval results were obtained for more than half of the samples that had not been correctly handled by the baseline system.
