When the Japanese language is sung in western classical-style, the natural qualities and nuances are frequently lost and the lyrics may be difficult to comprehend. In order to resolve the problems, an important first step would be to examine Japanese traditional singing, with its rich linguistic historical and cultural base, and then compare it to western-style vocalization.
