These information systems should have an ability to guide tourists in an unfamiliar place, and the systems should work indoors without any specific devices. In this paper, we discuss the conventional methods and clarify the problems of these systems and important factors for an effective system. Then we propose a novel method in which a widely spread mobile phone with an identification function is used as a positioning device. With the proposed method, since the system can detects position and direction of a pedestrian at each guidance point, such as crossroads, the system can provide the direction to the next guidance point, which is rich graphical and audio information through a mobile phone.
