This paper presents an implementation and evaluation of a dynamic running mode switch mechanism of application programs. Our proposed mechanism has a characteristic of on-demand and on-the-fly mode switching of a process from user mode to supervisor mode and vice versa. While a process is in the supervisor mode, it is able to emit a system-call as a corresponding simple function call. Thus, it eliminates the overhead of a conventional trap-based system-call procedure.
