It primary application is to describe the appearance of text, graphical shapes, and sampled images on printed or displayed pages. Since its introduction in 1985, the PostScript language has been considerably extended for programming power, efficiency, and flexibility. Typically, these language extensions were a result of adapting the PostScript imaging model to new imaging technologies or system environments. Last year, Adobe Systems Inc. announced PostScript Level 2. In addition to unifying all previous language extensions, Level 2 introduces a number of new language features.
