The authors are developing a new convenient and safe residential environment by introducing face recognition technology to apartments. However, the recognition accuracy of the face recognition devices installed in apartments is easily reduced by natural light due to the structural characteristics of the building. This paper presents our effort to introduce a face recognition system to apartments that are affected by natural light. The use of ND (Neutral Density) filters is then examined as a method to improve recognition accuracy.
