In such systems, a claimer sends a service provider her/his attribute information, credentials, and facial videos or images taken with her/his smartphone. By using such information, the service provider authenticates the claimer. This paper will focus on presentation attacks in which an attacker attempts to impersonate a victim by presenting facial videos or images synthesized with machine learning techniques, e.g., deepfakes. As a result of surveying countermeasures against such attacks, a promising one has not been established as far as the author is aware. An experimental result reported that some cloud-based facial authentication systems falsely accepted synthesized videos or images. These findings indicate a risk of the impersonation with synthesized videos or images has increased.
