Although some plain language translation systems exist in recent years, these systems need more usability because they require users to input complex Japanese sentences. We develop a web application for plain language translation using OCR for input sentences. In the evaluation, we conduct a reading comprehension test from the Japanese Language Proficiency Test for six international students at our college. The students use three methods: the proposed application, the existing system, and not using anything.
