Although various writing support methods have been studied, no study has examined, to the best of our knowledge, the effectiveness of transcribing one's writing. We experimented to compare transcribing with reading aloud. The results suggested that transcribing is likely to be effective for those who are good at writing, and that reading aloud is effective only for polishing the parts already written, while transcribing is effective for writing the remaining part that has not yet been written. In addition, third-party evaluation of the completed texts also showed that the transcribing condition was better overall.
