This allows the mixing of participants who speak as the main way of communicating (speech-participants) and those who prefer to use only text (text-participants). However, it is difficult for text-participants to actively contribute in discussions with speech-participants. There is also the possibility of text-participants experiencing feelings of alienation and hesitation to make their thoughts known. We propose a new system named ConvivialChat which would provide a way for participants to have equal and complementary discussions with each other. This is made possible through built-in functions such as the voiced text-chat button, voiced reaction buttons, and the voice-to-chatlog function. Experiments conducted showed the potential for text-participants to readily join in conversations with ConvivialChat. Results also showed that the voice-to-chatlog function not having its originally intended effect.
