European countries are increasingly making efforts to address interoperability issues of smart appliances caused by diverse products from various manufacturers with different standards in their homes. The Code of Conduct (CoC) for smart appliance manufacturers, along with the ongoing deployment of large pilot projects, emphasizes the adoption of a unified semantic interoperability layer based on SAREF family ontologies as a promising solution for this issue. In this paper, we conduct an initial investigation into the compatibility of ECHONET-based smart appliances with the CoC and subsequently propose a semantic adapter to facilitate the interoperability of these appliances within the Common European Reference Framework for energy-saving applications. This crucial effort enables ECHONET Lite and ECHONET Lite WebAPI compatible appliances to enter the European market seamlessly. |
