Many people seek positive evaluations from others and use self-exalting or self-protective methods to do so (Jones, 1973; Baumeister et al., 1989). It has been suggested that this characteristic of self-presentation is specific to the individual as a \"self-presentation style\" and may vary across cultures. In this study, we explore three aspects of differences in self-present ation styles between Japanese and Chinese, considering cultural backgrounds. As a result, significant differences in self-presentation styles between Japanese and Chinese were identified. Specifically, Chinese self-evaluation, desire for self-presentation, and behavioral strategies were all consistent, whereas Japanese desire was high, but self-evaluation and behavioral strategies tended to be low.
