Gilbert edited and annotated The History of the Irish Confederation, which has been considered one of the most crucial historical sources in seventeenth-century Irish history. However, recent manuscript studies have highlighted the imperfections in Gilbert's edition. This study, therefore, will transcribe the manuscript materials compiled by Gilbert using Transkribus, structuring them with TEI, and conducting a comparative analysis with the Gilbert edition to identify discrepancies. My analysis demonstrates the utility of Transkribus models for seventeenth-century English historical materials, the ease of tagging in transcription, and the straightforward xml format output for transcribed materials.
