For example, the number ‘6’ - when rotated by 180 degrees - can be classified to ‘9’. In order to classify such characters, it is necessary to estimate the parameter of applied transformations, rather than focusing on individual characters. In this report, we propose a classification representation, “ambiguous recognition expression.” An ambiguous recognition expression represents the scores over combinations of “class” and “transformation parameter”, where the score how likely the input belongs to the class under specified transformation. This enables valid character recognition assuming the contextual information on smooth character rotation, even when recognizing each character independently is difficult.
