内容記述 Personal information leakage detection tools are proposed as one solution for helping preserve privacy in social media usage. However, previous research among USA users indicates that there is higher privacy concern towards such privacy tools than towards tools that also detect information but for non-privacy purposes such as entertainment. In this paper, we conduct a similar online experiment among Japanese users, who have been reported to be worried about revealing personal information to other social media users. We used a factorial design with the factors of tool type (Privacy/Non-privacy tool) and data type (Image/Text), and participants into four groups. Participants were shown a description and interface of the tool, and then were asked to answer a questionnaire. The results show that there was a significant main effect of the type of tool on perceived surveillance concern, that is, higher surveillance concern towards the privacy tools. In addition, we found no significant effect of the type of tool on perceived intrusion concern or concern about secondary use of personal information, and no significant effect of data type. These findingsfor the Japanese sample are similar to previous findings for the USA sample, even though Japanese disposition to value privacy and prior privacy experience appears to have some distribution differences with the USA.
