(VR) システムを用いると,行動課題遂行中の脳活動イメージングが可能となる.動物の複雑な 2 次元行動を正確に計測するためには,VR 装置のトレッドミル球体の運動を複数センサで検出する必要がある.しかしながら,市販の齧歯類用 VR システムは高価であるだけでなく,そのシステム,特に,センサからトレッドミル球体の運動を計算するアルゴリズムがオープンではないため,その普及が大いに進んでいるとは言い難い.そこで本研究では,汎用的 VR プラットフォームで使用可能なコンピュータ用光学マウス 2 個を用い,高速にトレッドミル球体の運動を検出するシステムを開発した.更に,球面幾何学を駆使し,ロバストにトレッドミル球体の回転軸を計算する新奇アルゴリズムを考案した.これにより,動物の複雑な 2 次元行動を正確に再現することが可能となり,更に,これらシステムをオープン・ソースとすることにより,齧歯類用 VR developed that allows researchers to observe brain activity in rodents during behavioral tasks using a head-fixed rodent virtual reality (VR) system. To accurately measure the animals' two-dimensional behavior, a system was created using two optical mice to detect the motion of the spherical treadmill of the VR system. A novel algorithm was also created to calculate the rotation axis of the treadmill using spherical geometry.
