This is due to the fact that teacher recruitment has been restrained since 1990. The situation is particularly serious these days, as it is not possible to train successors to the faculty members in charge of this field. As a result, there are very few faculty members who can teach information processing courses on a full-time basis, and the current situation is that they are teaching while taking other commercial courses. The authors believe that the reason for this shortage of teachers is that teacher training programs in this field do not have a suitable curriculum, especially from the viewpoint of information processing education. A survey was conducted on the content of teacher training programs in the field of commerce at various universities. As a result, it was found that out of 251 departments in 153 universities in Japan that have teacher training programs in the field of commerce, only 16 departments in 12 universities provide sufficient time for information processing and make it a compulsory subject.
