XTetra implements a dialog-based typing support system, standard input from a console, drawing functions, and syntax highlighting in the editor. In order to verify whether XTetra can be used for beginners to learn the basics of programming, we conducted classes using XTetra in a high school with and without experience using Scratch, and evaluated the usefulness of XTetra using a questionnaire. The results showed that 67% of the students in both classes were able to understand how to write conditional branching and sequential iteration statements. The class with Scratch experience had an 8 percent higher understanding of how to write conditional and sequential statements than the class with no experience using Scratch.
