Edge bundling can play an important role in addressing the network visualization. However, previous edge bundling methods suffer from visual clutter after we zoom in on a resulting bundled network. Visual clutter is a problem which makes it difficult to understand network structure or makes topology ambiguous because of excessive edge crossing. Most studies in the field of edge bundling have only focused on visualizing the whole network without considering viewport; thus visual clutter survives after we zoom in on a specified region of the visualized network. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a new methodology for edge bundling by modifying a condition to select a set of edges to be bundled together and a way to curve an edge. Our aims are to reduce visual clutter after zooming in on a network while preserving context. In contrast to previous methods, our method reduces more visual clutter from zoomed network.
