An ultra-low-power and high-resolution temperature sensor is presented in this paper, which can be used in battery-free wireless sensor networks. The sensor generates digital temperature codes using current sources that rely on thermistors, oscillators, and time-to-digital converters (TDC). We also propose a fine counter - TDC block to deal with residual errors in conventional TDC and thus improve measurement resolution. The sensor is designed and simulated based on 180nm CMOS technology, that takes up 0.07mm2 of area and consumes 446nW at 25oC. The designed temperature range is -20oC to 80oC, with a resolution of 0.06°C. |
