By making use of these informations, documents can be retrieved not only by content-based queries but also by structure-based queries. Trypical document structures are chapters, sections and paragraphs. In this paper, we also take into account the mark-up of words in documents, and propose a mechanism to uniformly manage the information on real-world objects which the marked-up words represent. In our mechanism, data normally stored in SGML attributes are transparently stored in ordinary databases. Also, we present a query language to retrieve SGML documents which are coupledwith databases in this manner.
