Although numerous use cases leveraging V2X for solving traffic-related issues have been proposed, relatively few studies focus specifically on traffic congestion mitigation. In this study, we propose a traffic signal control method utilizing Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication to alleviate congestion. The proposed method is characterized by its ability to acquire information on vehicles approaching an intersection in advance and predict their intended directions before the next signal change. By incorporating this predictive information into conventional signal control, overall traffic flow can be improved. The method was evaluated using traffic simulations that reproduce actual traffic flow with a median relative error of 2%.
