On the other hand, there are also cases where public wireless LANs are introduced on campuses to improve the learning environment for citizens. From the perspective of promoting the development of ICT environments throughout society, we have advocated a new form of wireless LAN infrastructure that reduces the barriers between campus wireless LANs and public ones. In Japan, we launched Cityroam in 2018 as a secure public wireless LAN for citizens. In 2020, OpenRoaming was launched by the Wireless Broadband Alliance. Simple interconnection between different roaming federations is not possible since each federation has slightly different policies. On the other hand, it is necessary to simplify the authentication federation infrastructure required for roaming in order to efficiently deploy many access points. In this research, we developed an identity federation architecture that integrates eduroam and OpenRoaming with the aim of realizing the functions of Cityroam, which provides wireless LAN services to users of various federations, with a simple system configuration.
