A previous study found that among spam emails sent to Japan, the majority appeared to originate from within Japan, with many transmitted via provider-based forwarding. This suggests that such emails could have been countered if email authentication technologies had been functioning properly. Therefore, this study focuses on sender domain authentication technologies and analyzes the authentication results of spam emails and how receiving servers handle them. Considering Gmail's strengthened authentication policy introduced in 2024, we analyzed recent spam emails. The results showed that a large portion was sent to Yahoo! Mail, while only 0.4% were directly sent to Gmail.
