Many LPWAN technologies, such as LoRa and SigFox, achieve ultra-long-range communication by employing narrow bandwidths, which results in lower data rates. However, the shared nature of the 920 MHz band by various communication standards increases the likelihood of co-channel interference between 11ah and other LPWANs in real-world environments. Our previous research has demonstrated that the increased channel occupancy time (AirTime) of LoRa packets significantly degrades the throughput of 11ah, leading to an unfair distribution of communication opportunities between the two technologies. This study investigates the differences in transmission control mechanisms between 11ah and LoRa through real-world experiments.
