We prototyped a bearing surface that changes in softness using the elastic force of a spring, and verified how controlled softness of the chair can be perceived by the users. The first prototype achieved lightweight and low-cost mounting by mechanically controlling the expansion and contraction of the springs with constrained servo motors.
