We explore a new way to change human psychology and behavior by developing a chair that can control the user's sitting comfort dynamically. We prototyped a bearing surface that changes in softness using the elastic force of a spring, and verified how controlled softness of the chair can be perceived by the users. The first prototype achieved lightweight and low-cost mounting by mechanically controlling the expansion and contraction of the springs with constrained servo motors. Our preliminary user study confirmed that at least three levels of softness can be accurately perceived by our participants. |
