The live chat is a Web bulletin board where the viewers post messages in sync with a TV program. The messages in the live chat written by all viewers or by viewers having similar interest or preference to the user are statistically analyzed with pattern recognition to effectively extract indices related to viewer’s viewpoints such as important scenes in the program or responses by a particular viewer. Experiments indicate that the proposed method can efficiently extract indices such as the intensity of viewers’ responses and degree of emotional delight or disappointment.
