This paper presents Markov chainmodels for this process in which each menu item is a state and the degree ofsemantic similarity of each item to the target, given in a psychologicallyvalid semantic space, is related to the probability of state transition forselecting the item.  Then the probability and the average number of mouseclicks to reach the target are obtained by the numerical computation or thesimulation of the Markov chain.   We provide such evaluation for a samplehierachical menu.
