It mainly serves to connect phrases, and also performs a number of other functions. For example, it often serves as a clue word in the punctuation of phrases. To ascertain the characteristics of ``de'', we extracted the parts of speech used just before and after it, and analyzed the relationship between it and other conjunctions based on information about its appearance within the context of a corpus.
