<dc:description>An objective method using an emotion estimation model based on heartbeat and EEG was proposed to evaluate the immersive feeling that occurs when viewing VR images. The emotion estimation model is represented by four quadrants with ‘arousal level' by EEG and ‘pleasure-displeasure' by heart rate variability as axes. Experiments confirmed that changes in emotion due to video viewing can be estimated using the EEG index β_low/α_high as the vertical axis of the model and the heart rate variability index CVI as the horizontal axis. Using four type video contents, changes in emotion between monitor and VR viewing were estimated, and it was found that emotion from VR viewing was spread in the direction of ‘arousal-pleasantness' compared to monitor viewing, with a maximum of approximately three times greater when compared in terms of variance values. These results show the potential of the proposed method for objective evaluation of immersion.</dc:description>
