<dc:description>In literature, fantasy and dark fantasy are recognized as different genres. However, the boundary between the two genres is blurred and it is difficult to accurately distinguish between them. Therefore, in this study, four fantasy works were analyzed to clarify the differences between them and dark fantasy works. Specifically, categories of elements considered to be the cause of the darkness in the stories were created, and the frequency of occurrence of these elements in the target works was investigated. In addition, a narrative structure analysis was also carried out to analyze and compare the co-occurrence relationship between narrative patterns and elements in the darkness categories. As a result, it was found that there were differences in the frequency and the ratio of scenes in which each item in the darkness category appeared. The co-occurrence network analysis also revealed that the elements with high centrality were violence and social oppression in dark fantasy. It was also revealed that Murder and Mental or physical lack were commonly high.</dc:description>
