• 論文抄録 / 内容記述: ヒトとヒト以外の動物の究極的な違いは，言語がデジタル通信であるところにある．歌が言語を生みだしたという人もいれば，音楽は言語以後に生まれた文化とも考えられる．この 2 つの考えは矛盾しない．なぜならば，まず動物の鳴き声と同じような歌が存在し，それがデジタル音韻符号を生みだして言語が生まれ，その後，ヒトは余暇を使って自らの技芸と精神性を高め，文化活動に打ち込むようになったと考えられるからだ．ヒトは文化によって人間になる．論語に 「詩に興り，礼に立ち，楽に成る」 というように，音楽は人間の営む文化活動の中でももっとも洗練され，精神性の高いものである．

• 論文抄録(英) / 内容記述: The ultimate difference between humans and non-human-animals is that language is digital communication. Some say that singing developed human language, while others think that music is one of cultural activities that were born after language. The author finds no contradiction between the above two hypotheses. It is possible that, in the beginning, humans were crying and singing like other mammals and, through mimicking natural sounds, they shared a set of discrete consonants and eventually acquired a language. Then they started to cultivate themselves with various cultural activities in peacetime, and improved their stage of mind and artistic abilities so that they should become human beings. It is the cultural activities that make humans into human beings. As Confucius said, 'It is by the Odes that the mind is aroused. It is by the Rules of Propriety that the character is established. It is from Music that the finish is received.' The music is the most sophisticated and most spiritual among human linguistic and cultural activities.
