• 論文抄録 / 内容記述: 分析的な思考は文字言語によってもたらされたといわれる．しかし、古代ギリシャでは、政治・科学などの進展は公の場での討論に負うところが大きかった．そのプロセスにおいてはレトリックを駆使しての口頭による他者の説得が文字言語より重視された．また、ユダヤ・キリスト教の伝統においても、弁証法などによる口頭の伝統が強く、文献の解釈の際にも、その方法が一般的だった．ラテン語による男子の中等教育の長い伝統においても、文献を扱いながらも口頭による議論が中心的な位置を保った．こうして、常に口頭による議論の中から新しいものが生まれ、現在でも裁判・議会政治・社会一般において対話形式の議論が盛んだ．

• 論文抄録(英) / 内容記述: It is said that analytic thinking emerged after the invention of writing. However, in the city states of ancient Greece the propagation of political and scientific ideas took place largely through public debate, which took preference over the written word long after books and documents were produced. Rhetoric was an important part of this oral culture, as was dialectic argumentation. Dialectics was also important in the Judaeo-Christian tradition, especially in the Rabbinic Academies. The long tradition of Latin education for boys also placed great importance on debating, a trend that still survives in various disguises today.
