• 論文抄録 / 内容記述: 本報告では、ネットワーク上の個人情報保護のあり方に関して、我が国と同様に、自主規制によるアプローチを採用したアメリカの事例について検討する。そこでは、まず初めに、この自主規制アプローチが、どのような背景の下に形成され、また、このアプローチを実効あらしめるための政府（特にアメリカ連邦取引委員会）及び産業界の活動を概観する。 そのうえで、このアプローチに対するEUの批判から、このアプローチの問題点を指摘し、オンライン上の個人情報保護に関するより効果的なアプローチのあり方について私見を提示する。

• 論文抄録(英) / 内容記述: This report analyzes American approach (as well as Japan), called "Self-Regulation", to protect online personal information on networks. At first, it traces the development of this approach and govermental (especially Federal Trade Commission), industrial efforts to implement this approach effectively. And also, through that examines difficulties of this approach pointed out by European Union that takes legislative approach, it suggest some point that self-regulative approach will be more effective in Japan.
