• 論文抄録 / 内容記述: 工業化以前の日本文明を支えた聖典的礼法書である日用百科型節用集の使用実態をさぐることで、新たな日本文明像の構築をめざす。その方法として、まず数々の残存本の下小口にみられる黒い手垢条痕の写真映像に含まれる濃淡分布をスキャナとコンピュータにより計量化し、棒グラフ状の画像を求める。次にそれらの画像相互の距離を多変量解析の手法で計測し、その結果をクラスク分析や多次元尺度法により図表化することにより分類する。この方法でうまれる諸範疇は、節用集の様々な使用者の生活様式にどのような類型があったのかを、慨成の社会理論とは異なるかたちで示すことになるだろう。

• 論文抄録(英) / 内容記述: This study tries to discover the patterns of life-styles which were dominant in pre-industrial Japan in order to obtain a new insight into its civilisation. The sources chosen are surviving copies of a popular semi-holy book which comprehensively informed its users of the basic polite knowledge at that time. The question to be asked is how each copy was used: An answer will appear from the dark lines of wear and tear on the copy's bottom side, the historical record unconsciously made by its users' hands. The photographs of various examples of such parts of the book will be scanned and processed into bar graphs, and by multi-variate analyses, the patterns of these garphs will be arranged in some possibly significant sets of groups. These new classifications will urge historians to reconsider the social structure of pre-industrial Japan, and hence the nature of its civilisation.
