• 論文抄録 / 内容記述: SG16はマルチメディアに関する課題を集め、1996年末に新設されたSGである。これまでに2回の全体会合が開かれ（第1回：1997年3月、第2回：1998年1月）、48件の勧告の決定が承認され、10件の勧告が現在凍結されている。SG16では、モデム、オーディオビジュアル(AV)システム・端末、画像・音声の符号化を中心に標準化をすすめており、特徴的ものとしては、PCMモデム、インターネット電話を含むパケットベース網のAVシステム、移動体用のAVシステム、移動体通信用の画像符号化方式などの勧告化が進められている。ITU-T内外のマルチメディア関連の他組織との連携も増え、今後の動向が一層注目される。

• 論文抄録(英) / 内容記述: Concerning multimedia services and systems, Study Group 16 held its meeting twice in March 1997 and January 1998. At the meetings 48 recommendations are submitted to the approval procedure of ITU-T, and 10 recommendations are determined for decision at the next meeting. This group is responsible for modems, for audiovisual terminals, and for video and audio coding. The recommendations of PCM modem, internet telephony terminals, mobile audiovisual terminals and video coding for mobile audiovisual system are especially followed worldwide. As their relation to other issue pertaining to multimedia technology is increasing, it would appear that greater attention should be paid to SG16's activities in the future.
