• 論文抄録 / 内容記述: ビデオ画像通信を利用して 分散した職場間のインフォーマルコミュニケーションを支援するシステムの研究が活発化している. これらのシステムではビデオ画像通信を 会話開始前に受け手の状態を確認することで会話を開始するまでの心理的敷居を下げるためや 意図しない相手との偶発的な会話のトリガとして利用している. 本論文では これらのシステムにおける課題として 会話前に受け手を覗くことによって 受け手に会話を強要する侵入感の問題と 意図しない相手との偶発的会話支援が狙いどおり発生しない問題について焦点を当て 距離の概念の導入を試みることでこれらの問題点を解決するインタラクションモデルを提案する. また 本モデルに基づいた実験システムオフィスウォーカを開発し ユーザ実験により これらの課題 および システムの導入効果について検証する. その結果 侵入感の問題については 受け手が反応せざるをえなくなる状況が回避でき 遠隔の相手の様子を気軽に見ることができようになった. 偶発的会話については 業務グループ間におけるコミュニケーションのうち 25%が偶発的に生じており 意図した相手と異なる相手との会話を支援することが可能になった. また システムの導入効果として 問合せのカテゴリの会話が有意に増加し 遠隔のメンバに気軽に問合せができるようになることが確認できた.

• 論文抄録(英) / 内容記述: There have been a number of experiments conducted to evaluate video communication as a technology for supporting informal communications among distributed organizations. These systems use video links for checking availability of recipients prior to conversation to reduce the reluctance of starting conversations, and as the triggers of unitended interactions with unexpected communication partners. In this paper, we focused on two issues, the problem of intrusiveness that occurs when a caller glances at a recipient, and the failure of triggering unintended interactions. We propose and interaction model that solves these two problems by introducing sense of distance among users. Then we show our prototype system called OfficeWalker that embodied this model, and conducted an user experiment to examine these issues, as well as effects on communication frequency. The result of our experiment showed that the problem of intrusiveness was drasticaly improved. Subjects could freely glance at recipients without interrupting recipients'activity. We also observed that 25% of communications between two groups of subjects occurred in an occurred in an unintended manner. Frequency of asking questions was significantly increased by introducing OfficeWalker.
